“Employment of cardiovascular technologists and technicians is expected to increase 24 percent through the year 2018, much faster than the average for all occupations.”
Program Information:
Our program is designed to prepare students for employment as Electrocardiograph Technicians. Students in this program will learn to become team members and will have in depth knowledge of the 12 lead EKG and the conduction system of the heart as well as some of the disorders that can be monitored with the EKG or other mobile monitoring systems. Our course will provide an understanding of pre-hospital emergency medicine and life-saving techniques. Students will also gain first-hand experience through a facility based hands on clinical rotation.
Job Functions:
EKG Technicians assist in helping physicians diagnose and treat patients various cardiovascular problems. They use an electrocardiogram machine to monitor the heart’s activity. These tests record the reading of electrical impulses from the heart so the physician can accurately diagnose the problem. As an EKG Technician you could potentially work in a hospital, clinic or physician’s setting.
Student Outcomes:
Students who successfully complete the requirements for the EKG Technician program will be eligible to sit for a national certification exam.
